Scribble Picnic

Michael at Scribble Picnic gave us a shape to use in art this week:

at first I thought to use it in a tribal design

when I set pencil to paper
these little houses came to life

art is endlessly amusing to me that way
as though it has a mind of it's own

Thank you for hosting Michael

to see what others created wth this shape

Fantasy Fungi

so fun to do another fantasy mushroom piece

autumn is the big season for fungi
but so far not many spotted
it was a drought summer
we have gotten a bit of rain
so they might appear yet

Another Ink drawing

dancing man
bones of a tree during the day
comes to life as a dancer at night

inspired by this photo from a hike I did a couple weeks ago on a camping trip
the trail is called Scenic Point and takes one high
into the mountains
to the sky
with amazing views
once upon a time trees

Scribble Picnic: Blanket

the night forest was
lit up
by the light of the full moon
wrapped in a blanket
to keep the autumn chill from her bones
she walked through the night
(colored version added a day after original post)

sharing with friends at Scribble picnic

Thank you Michael

InkTober 2017

This is my 3rd year to join InkTober
one ink drawing a day for Octobr.
I find it to be a great challenge,
ink pouring onto the paper each day.
Never know what will appear.
So fun.

It is so beautiful now!

Healing Fairy

thank goodness for
healing fairies

that sprinkle us with remembrance essence

remembrance of our hearts
pure nature

Scribble Picnic: Watch Out!

it's that time of year
autumn or spring

rains inspire the fungi
to rise through the earth
(or this one from dead wood)
offering treasures for us to find

so Watch Out
don't step on them
delight in their fairy like character
they come in so many shapes, sizes and colors!

Fungi Kin

I really enjoy making these fantasy landscapes
loosely based on fungi that I have photographed

so often mushrooms, lichen and mosses
feel like a magical realm

yet it is our realm
we live in a magical kingdom

Scribble Picnic: black and white

I drew the white bits with a masking liquid pen
and let it dry

then wet the sky with water and dropped black ink into it
(I learned this technique from Stephanie Law's

the landscape was painted with pure black ink

when dry I rubbed the masking away revealing the white

It was a fun thing to do and I think I would enjoy trying it again

to enjoy art by others for our theme.

Thank you Michael

Scribble Picnic: Curly

home sweet home

waiting for my dentist appointment
I drew this lady with curly hair
her colorful home
with curly smoke
curly clouds

later sitting in the lobby
looking a the floor
I spied this serpent in the grains of the wood
thought it a rather curly serpent

with our mountains on fire
we begin to dream of spring
the delectable morel fungi

they spring from the soil the year after a forest wildfire
beacons of new life

in case you do not visit my photography blog:
here is one photo of the crescent shaped shadows I saw during the eclipse
what a lovely surprise they were!

Scribble Picnic: square with and X

this week Michael chose a shape for us to work with:

I had a number of ideas, but somehow using the shape to inspire a design
is what won out.

I need a rug to go on my hard wood floor before winter, for warmth.
As I worked on this I saw it as a rug.

to see art by others with this shape in it somewhere, somehow.

patience was not needed
curiosity had touched his heart so deeply
that the only choice
was to wait

hoping to see who would come out the door

Sylvan Fantasy

summer grass is turning golden
fruits ripen every where I look
we are entering the serious harvest season

two days ago
I noticed the days light is getting shorter

it feels good to sit down
and paint

another fungi floral fantasy piece

I hope you are enjoying your season
be it summer or winter

Scribble Picnic: ladybug

she always wore a green dress
hoping the leaf color
would beckon ladybugs to her

Remembering a ladybug that I saw last year......
I thought to try painting it from the photo

Scribble Picnic: Fox

needs to touch her inner stillness
from time to time

Sharing with Michael's:

a few nights ago
I woke to the screaming calls of two fox in the woods
their sounds are quite unique

somehow it inspired a feeling of all is right in the world
